Topic description

The topics of Advertising and PR are focused both on theoretical and methodological reflection and practical application. They draw on influences from the social sciences and humanities, as well as from technology and art. The subdivisions of the topics are: PR Strategy; Advertising Strategy; Media; Communication Theory; Consumer Behaviour; Internet-based Marketing; Graphic Design; and the Impact of Advertising from a Broader Societal Perspective.

 

Job description

Research within the topic area; teaching the topic at under- and post-graduate levels; administrative tasks within the department; developing the topic and building an advanced-level and graduate-level education.


Qualification requirements

A qualified candidate is able to demonstrate considerable research and teaching proficiency. Research proficiency is demonstrated through a history of independent research within the topics of Advertising and PR which significantly exceeds the requirements of an associate professor position, in both qualitative and quantitative terms. The research proficiency may be in one or more of the following areas: Advertising Strategy; Public Relations; Semiotics/Rhetorics; Marketing Communications; or the Impact of Advertising from a Broader Societal Perspective. Previous experience of planning and managing research projects will also be given due weight. Teaching proficiency is demonstrated through documented teaching experience from under- and post-graduate levels, including PhD courses. The evaluation will also be based on the candidate’s ability to plan, execute and evaluate teaching activities such as student supervision and examinations. Teaching proficiency must be documented in a manner which allows the quality of teaching to be assessed. The applicant must also be able to cooperate well with others and possess the additional skills required to successfully fulfill the responsibilities included in the position.

 

Assessment criteria

Special and equal emphasis will be given to research and teaching proficiency.
Strong emphasis will be given to a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and researchers.
Strong emphasis will be given to administrative proficiency and the ability to establish good forms of collaboration with the surrounding community and communicate research and other developments in a clear and effective manner.
 

 

Strong emphasis will be given to:
• Successful research supervision, demonstrated by active supervision of at least one PhD student resulting in a passed thesis.
• Experience of successfully planning and receiving research funds from external funders.
The following will also be considered a merit:
• Pedagogical training of at least 7.5 ECTS, or the equivalent knowledge and skills gained through other means.
• Training in research (PhD) supervision.
• Professional experience in Advertising and Public Relations.

 

Additional information
A candidate who has not completed university pedagogical training for at least 7.5 credits and who is not otherwise judged to have acquired similar skills will be required to undertake such training within the first two years of employment.
A majority of the professors within the Faculty of Social Sciences are men; therefore, Stockholm University especially welcomes applications from women.


Knowledge of Swedish is not a requirement at the time of employment however the successful candidate should be prepared, within a couple of years, to carry out teaching and administration tasks that require knowledge of the Swedish language.
