The Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy is a
multidisciplinary, internationally widely networked unit focusing in
research on social structures and transitions, on politics and policies,
and on human agency. The department provides both undergraduate and
graduate teaching, and is particularly strong in doctoral degrees.
Disciplines include sociology, social and public policy, gender studies,
social work, political science and philosophy. In addition, degrees
are granted in the master’s programmes in research on civil society, in
development co-operation, and in cultural policy.
The main research areas at the Department of Social Sciences and
Philosophy are political thought and theory, philosophy of human
condition, intellectual and conceptual history, policies of development
and culture, social structures, changes and services, and agency from
the viewpoints of morality, consumer behaviour, and the civil society.
The faculty is currently seeking to recruit staff for the following positions:
1. University lecturer / University researcher, 2-3 positions at the
Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy on either a four-year or
open-ended employment contract, starting on 1 September, 2012;
2. University lecturer, 1-3 positions at the Department of Social
Sciences and Philosophy on a fixed-term employment contract on 1
September, 2012 – 31 August, 2016;
The University lecturers, University researchers will be employed
in the main research fields of the departments and its teaching areas.
Research and teaching at the departments are closely connected.
The main research areas at the Department of Social Sciences and
Philosophy are (1) Moral and Political Agency (2) Sustainability and
Social Transformations (3) Transforming welfare policies and practices.
The applicant’s research is expected to strengthen these main research
fields.
