The Department of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology (INK) is one of the major departments within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University. The department has approximately 130 employees and educates approximately 1700 students annually. The main research disciplines are Geomorphology, Glaciology, Climatology, Quaternary Geology, Hydrology, Remote Sensing, Geographical Data Processing, Ecological Geography and Tropical Geography. Education is oriented towards geography, earth sciences, geosciences and environmental protection.
Subject: Environmental and Health Protection.
Subject description: Environmental and health protection is a multidisciplinary field with a base in natural science, engineering or medicine, focusing on environmental and health protection issues in society.
Main tasks: Research, teaching and supervision. The main tasks include responsibility for leading and developing the one year and the two year masters programmes in Environmental and Health Protection, including tuition, research and supervision. The development work demands extensive cooperation and liaison with other departments within Stockholm University, and with other universities, government agencies, businesses and NGOs.
Required qualifications: Specific qualifications required to be considered as a candidate for employment as a senior lecturer include a PhD or a corresponding level of scientific competence within the subject area of the position, documented teaching proficiency, and the necessary general qualifications.
General qualifications include the ability to collaborate and the professional skills to perform all the duties of the position.
Teaching and learning theory: Higher education in teaching theory, or corresponding knowledge obtained in another manner, is to be given credit. Candidates lacking formal advanced education in teaching theory corresponding to a minimum of 7.5 higher education credits and who are judged not in possession of corresponding teaching skills must pursue such studies during the first two years of employment.
Assessment criteria: In the appointment process special consideration will be given to scientific and teaching proficiency, which will be weighted equally. Assessment of scientific proficiency will primarily focus on merits within the subject area of the position.
When merits are judged similar according to the general criteria, the following will be distinguishing:
• experience from environmental work within government agencies, businesses or national and international NGOs.
When assessing pedagogical skill, particular consideration will be given to:
• documented proficiency in teaching, supervising and developing multidisciplinary environmental education over faculty boundaries,
• experience with multidisciplinary environmental education for professionals.
Additional information: The first three years of employment will include at least 50% teaching and educational administration. The position requires the skill to speak, read and write formal and administrative Swedish as the education programme is highly related to Swedish law, official guidelines, advice and formal decisions passed by different Swedish authorities at various levels of governance.
