Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) is a university specialising in technology and business studies in South East Finland with approximately 6000 students and 1000 staff members. The La-boratory of Fluid Dynamic in LUT is active in research of fluid dynamics especially compressors, pumps and turbines. The strong areas of laboratory are Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and supporting experimental studies, process modeling and high speed technology.
The Laboratory of Fluid Dynamics at Lappeenranta University of Finland, is looking for
a Doctoral Student or a Research Assistant.
The candidate will initially work in the project funded by Academy of Finland. The focus of the re-search will depend on the background of the candidate and personal initiative. The research envi-ronment will offer possibilities for strong international collaboration.
The aim for a doctoral student is to complete the doctoral degree in 3,5 years. The position requires a higher university degree and motivation to complete the doctoral degree within the target time. In addition, the candidate is required to present a postgraduate study plan and a research plan, which are approved at the beginning of the employment relationship (for the person appointed). Suitable disciplines include Fluid Dynamics, Power Plant engineering, Numerical Methods, Applied Mathe-matics and other related area. Proficiency in English, the experience of the power plants especially steam turbines and the numerical modeling are advantage for the candidate.
The employment relationship is fixed-term. The duration of the first term is one year. If the postgra-duate studies progress as planned, the employment relationship may be continued for a second term, the duration of which is 2.5 years.
The salary will be determined according to the university salary system for teaching and research personnel, job grades 1-4. In addition, the salary will include an individual pay component based on performance and competence.
In addition, the candidates at the end of their M.Sc. studies can be considered to the position of a Research Assistant to make their M.Sc. thesis. The employment relationship of a Research Assistant is fixed-term for six months. The salary will be determined according to the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary is 2200,59 EUR/month. After finishing the M.Sc. thesis the candidate is presumed to be interested in doctoral studies.
