Postdoctoral position in Nuclear Power Safety/Thermal-Hydraulics

KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.

The School of Engineering Sciences carries out a wide range of research at the international front line, from fundamental disciplines such as physics and mathematics, to engineering mechanics with applications such as aeronautics and vehicle engineering. We also offer University degree programs in Engineering Physics, Vehicle Engineering, 'Engineering and Education', and 'Open Entrance', as well as a number of International Masters Programmes.

A postdoctoral position is announced at the Division of Nuclear Power Safety, Department of Physics, School of Engineering Sciences, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden within the subject area of nuclear power safety/thermal-hydraulics. The Division of Nuclear Power Safety conducts research on thermal-hydraulics and accident phenomena of risk importance to nuclear reactors, and also performs safety analysis for nuclear power plants (NPPs), including thermal-hydraulic analysis and coupled thermal-hydraulic/neutron-kinetic analysis with particular emphasis on boiling water reactors in Nordic countries. The position is a non-tenurable position with an appointment for two years.

Information about our division and our research interests and projects can be found at www.safety.kth.se/research.html

Qualifications and eligibility

A suitable background for this position would be a PhD degree (not older than two years) in nuclear science & engineering or a similar area with a strong background of experimental research. In-depth knowledge of two-phase flow and boiling heat transfer is essential for carrying out the position. Experience with simulation of thermal-hydraulics of nuclear power plants as well as documentation of research work (publications) is a merit. The position will also require independent work in addition to collaborative skills and creative thinking. In addition, good oral and written communication skills in English are required.
