Professor in Computer Security
KTH School of Computer Science and Communication seeks Professor in Computer Security
KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.
KTH School of Computer Science and Communication is Sweden’s leading research and education institutions in Information Technology, with activities at both KTH and Stockholm University. The activities of the school focus on higher education and research within the traditional core areas of numerical analysis and computer science; from theory building and analysis of mathematical models to algorithm construction, implementation and simulation. Other core areas of growing importance are technology and methods for the support of human communication and computer mediated cooperation. The applied research includes scientific computing, computer science, computer vision, robotics, neuroinformatics and neural networks, human-computer interaction, media technology, and communication through speech and music. For more information, go to www.kth.se/csc and follow the link to our "international website”.
Within the CSC school the Department of Theoretical Computer Science offers a strong research environment including 5 professors and a broad spectrum of research in theory and adjacent areas, including approximation algorithms, security, formal methods, distributed and networked systems, language technology, and cryptography.
Subject
Computer Security
Subject description
Computer security concerns methods and techniques for the construction of secure computer systems. Relevant security properties include confidentiality, integrity, and availability at system, component, and data levels. The subject also includes modeling, analysis, and testing of existing computer systems from the point of view of security.
Eligibility requirements
A professor must possess documented scientific and didactic skills in the subject, and must have documented experience from independently managing, executing and developing education and research at an internationally high level.
Assessment criteria
Extensive competence and skills are required in computer security and within one or more adjoining area(s) such as operating systems, machine architecture, parallel, distributed, and networked systems, formal methods, and programming languages. An important objective is to build up new activity in experimental computer security within undergraduate teaching as well as research. Research competence and/or industrial experience in practical aspects of computer security such as vulnerability testing is therefore given a high priority. Documented experience and ability to finance and lead larger research projects, as well as to develop national and international collaborations is of great importance, as is the ability to contribute to and develop university education at all levels, including supervision of postgraduate students. An additional eligibility criterion is a documented ability to work with the surrounding society and to disseminate information about research and development.
