Ph.D. scholarships in
experimental physics at Glass and Time,
the Danish National Research Foundation Centre
for Viscous Liquid Dynamics
Two Ph.D.
scholarships are available at the DNRF centre of excellence Glass and Time
from November 1, 2010, or soon thereafter.
Research
at Glass and Time focuses on understanding the universal physical
properties of highly viscous liquids approaching the glass transition, a
problem that is attacked experimentally as well as by extensive computer
simulations. Glass and Time consists of several Ph.D. students, postdocs, and
experienced scientists. Additional information about the group can be found at:
http://glass.ruc.dk
The two
new students will take part in carrying out the centre’s ambitious research
plan for the period 2010-2015. One task is to investigate the
thermoviscoelastic properties of highly viscous liquids in the light of the
recently developed theory of scaling of strongly correlating liquids. Another
task is the development the AC-calorimetric technique for measuring the thermal
relaxation of supercooled liquids. The group builds new measuring equipment
dedicated for the specific scientific purpose, e.g., utilizing piezoelectric
ceramic transducers for mechanical measurements or making conducting films in
our PVD-chamber for calorimetric measurements. However, your own ideas are also
welcome in the application.
Although
we are looking for talented experimentalists for the above two tasks, other
applications are also welcome, going for instance in a more chemical direction
or from students more interested in theory and simulation.
All
interested applicants, regardless of age, sex, religious or ethnic background
are encouraged to apply.
If
you wish to learn more about the 3-year scholarships,
you are welcome to contact Professor Jeppe Dyre, (+45)

Please
visit Roskilde Universitetys Home page: http://www.ruc.dk/en/jobs/ where you can send your application online.
We
must receive your application on or before October 15, 2010. Fill in the form
and attach your application, CV, diploma and publications.
