Description of the research unit:
Our unit conducts clinical and epidemiological research of diseases and surgery in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Our multidisciplinary unit offers a stimulating, active and creative work environment. We have excellent collaboration within the unit and with researchers throughout Sweden and internationally. There is a particularly active collaboration and exchange with King’s College London, where our director is professor as well. We are well organised and have developed a specific post-doc program.
The overarching aim of our research is to identify causes to, prevention of, and improve the therapy of diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract, mainly cancer. Our research of oesophageal cancer is internationally leading. We have a clinical link with upper gastrointestinal surgery. A substantial part of the research is based on data from Swedish health care registries and from large clinical data collections in Sweden and England. The unit consists of 2 research groups, and contains 31 members, including researchers (full-time or part-time), postgraduate students, biostatisticians and administrators. Our unit got the highest possible score ("Outstanding”) in cancer research in the external research assessment of all research constellations at KI ("ERA2010”). You can read more about us at the homepage www.ki.se/forskning/ugir (read the English translation by clicking on the text "In English” in the right upper corner).
Area of responsibilities:
We look for a postdoctoral candidate who will conduct excellent epidemiological and clinical research directed towards causes and treatment of cancer of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
The applicant is expected to mainly focus on research and supervision.
There are also opportunities for teaching.
Exchange with some research at King’s College London can be offered.
The post-doc will be supervised by the director of the unit, Jesper Lagergren (”Distinguished Professor Award” at KI).
Workplace:
