Associate professorship in English postcolonial literature
The Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Copenhagen University, Denmark, invites applications for an associate professorship in English postcolonial literature, to be filled by 1st of August, 2012, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful applicant must document research in English postcolonial literature, preferably also in a multicultural context.
The Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies teaches and conducts research into language, literature and society in Western Europe, Australia, the USA, Canada, Latin America and parts of Africa. The Department is a dynamic environment with a high level of personal interaction and a wide range of functions. It currently employs approx. 150 members of staff.
Job content
The associate professor is expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration and also manage research projects, provide pedagogic supervision, supervise assistant professors and sit on academic assessment panels.
The position involves research, teaching, supervision, communication and administrative duties. In addition to teaching and supervision at the MA and PhD levels, the applicant must participate in teaching in the wider area of anglophone literature and culture at the BA level of the department’s English degree.
Applicants are expected to relate their research and teaching to wider cultural and societal issues and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration. Applicants must demonstrate research and teaching qualifications within the specified area. Documentation of research within English postcolonial literature, preferably also in multicultural literature, is required.
Applicants with previous experience from collective research projects and from working in an interdisciplinary environment will be at an advantage.
Applicants must document complete fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of the other languages taught at the department will be an advantage, as the successful applicant will be encouraged to take part in interdisciplinary collaboration in the Department.
To take part in daily communication and administrative duties at the department, non-Danish speakers must acquire the necessary Danish language skills within a maximum of two years.

Qualification requirements
When appointing a candidate to the post as associate professor, we stress that the applicant must have research and teaching qualifications corresponding to what can be achieved as part of a successful employment as an assistant professor.

· Research qualifications, which will be assessed in relation to the period of active research and the degree of originality and production
· The applicant’s scientific record, academic breadth and depth, rigour, thoroughness and accuracy as well as academic relevance in relation to the advertisement for the position

Appendix 6: Publications. Applicants may choose a maximum of five publications for assessment, of which at least three of the selected works must have been published within the five years immediately preceding the deadline for applications. Publication dates must be clearly marked on the publication list. The publications selected must be uploaded as attachments and named from 1-5.
Only material in English, German, French, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish, can be expected to be assessed.
All material will be shredded at the end of the appointment procedure.
Appointment procedure
After the application deadline, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to evaluate applicants specifically in relation to the advertised position. The applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each candidate will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before the appointment is finalised.

Salary and conditions of employment
The post will be filled according to the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
